Getting started
China offers a rare combination of advanced medical capability, large-scale clinical experience, and cost efficiency. Treatment costs are substantially lower than in many developed countries—not because standards are lower, but because China's healthcare system operates at a different scale. Leading hospitals invest in internationally advanced technology, while high patient volumes allow specialist teams to build exceptional depth of experience in complex procedures. Centralized procurement of medicines and medical devices, competitive domestic manufacturing, and more efficient operating costs further reduce the financial burden on patients.
The difference can be substantial. A full course of CAR-T cell therapy in China may cost less than half the price typically charged in the United States. Across more than 30 major procedures—including proton and heavy-ion therapy, coronary artery bypass surgery, joint replacement, IVF, and dental implants—international patients may save approximately 50% to 87% compared with U.S. prices. Institutions such as the Shanghai Proton and Heavy Ion Center combine advanced technology, established clinical protocols, and extensive treatment experience. China is therefore not simply a lower-cost option; for suitable patients, it can offer access to sophisticated care, experienced medical teams, and exceptional overall value.
LumaLink Global supports international patients in navigating medical care in China. Depending on your situation and the type of support required, we could help organize medical records for clinical review, identify and coordinate with appropriate hospitals and specialist teams, arrange appointments, provide medical interpretation and document translation, assist with documents required for visa applications, coordinate airport transfers and local transportation, provide on-site support during hospital visits, and arrange post-treatment follow-up.
Before any service begins, we will clearly confirm the scope of support, fees, and delivery arrangements with you.
Before You Travel
Cost & Insurance
Whether you can use international health insurance, obtain preauthorization, or arrange direct billing depends on your insurance plan, insurer, hospital, and treatment. Within the agreed service scope, we can help you communicate with the hospital or insurer and prepare relevant materials. Your insurer must confirm coverage, reimbursement rates, and billing arrangements. We recommend verifying your insurance before finalizing the hospital and treatment arrangements.
Care in China
Purchasing prescription medication in China generally requires an evaluation and prescription from a licensed physician at a Chinese healthcare institution. We recommend purchasing medication from a hospital pharmacy or another properly licensed pharmacy. When bringing medication into China for personal use, keep it in its original packaging and carry the prescription, a physician's letter, or other supporting documents. Quantity limits and entry requirements are subject to the customs and regulatory rules in effect at the time. Do not stop, switch, or adjust the dosage of any medication on your own.
